Description
According
to
documented
studies
,
falls
that
occur
while
in the
hospital
are
detrimental
to the
patient
, the
health
care
organization
, and
society
.
Health
care
facilities
struggle
with
decreasing
the
frequency
of
falls
, the
injuries
that
transpire
because
of
falls
and the
increased
cost
that
accompanies
falls
.
Serious
injuries
occur
in
30%
of
all
inpatient
falls
(Hart
,
Chen
,
Rashidee
&
Kumar
,
2009)
.
Motor
visualization
is
an
innovative
,
low
cost
,
nursing
intervention
that
can
be
implemented
to
reduce
inpatient
falls
.
Patients
that
visualize
themselves
performing
a
specific
action
such
as
transferring
from the
bed
to the
wheelchair
will have a
decreased
incidence
of
falls
while
residing
in the
hospital
.
Implementing
a
program
that
involves
select
patients
listening
to
motor
visualization
recordings
three
times
a
week
for
ten
minutes
will
potentially
decease
falls
and the
costs
associated
with them.
