Description
Stress
urinary
incontinence
is
a
common
problem
that
affects
the
lives
of
many
females
in their
life
time
especially
during
pregnancy
as a
result
of
weakness
to their
pelvic
muscles
. This
condition
has a
significant
impact
on the
social
,
psychological
and
physical
well
being
of the
individuals
and
affects
their
quality
of
life
.
Research
shows
women
with
stress
urinary
incontinence
have a
higher
rate
of
depression
and
social
isolation
than those
without
urinary
incontinence
, and as a
result
of the
psychological
distress
they
suffer
their
sex
drive
and
self
esteem
become
compromised
.
Due
to
embarrassment
,
women
fail
to
disclose
this
problem
to their
physicians
and their
health
care
providers
feel
reluctant
to
discuss
this
problem
because
they
feel
it
is
a
sensitive
matter
. As a
result
, this
condition
goes
untreated
leading
to
complications
associated
with
urinary
incontinence
like
urinary
tract
infections
,
skin
breakdown
etc.
Many
treatment
options
are
available
like
surgery
,
pharmacological
therapy
and
pelvic
floor
muscle
exercises
. The
choice
of the
patient
in
choosing
the
appropriate
treatment
is
important
;
PFME
is
often
the
first
treatment
option
.
