Object Description
Title | Decreasing the rate of HIV in corrections |
Subject | Prisoners; Corrections; HIV (Viruses); AIDS (Disease); Condoms. |
Description | The rate of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in the Correctional System of the United States is 4 to 5 times higher than the rate among the general population. Ninety percent of the inmates presently incarcerated are released annually back into society. HIV is transmitted in corrections through sexual contact and needle sharing. Research has shown that the proper use of condoms by HIV positive persons will greatly decrease the risk of spreading the virus. Therefore, this proposal includes an implementation plan for the distribution of condoms in correctional facilities along with education on the transmission and prevention of HIV to the incarcerated population. |
